LedgerlyPro vs QuickBooks, Xero and Sage: UK Price and Feature Comparison

General information only. This is not tax, legal or financial advice. Check HMRC guidance or speak to an accountant for your situation.

One simple plan. £9.99 per month. LedgerlyPro's available product features included.

That is the central difference in this comparison. LedgerlyPro does not ask customers to move through several subscription tiers to unlock Inventory & Stock, projects, mileage, planning tools or its supported HMRC workflows. QuickBooks, Xero and Sage serve broader ranges of businesses, but their features, limits and add-ons can vary substantially by plan.

Bookkeeping software should still be compared by the work you need it to do—not by a promotional headline alone. A low introductory price may rise after several months, while a more expensive plan may include bank feeds, VAT filing or payroll functionality that LedgerlyPro does not provide.

This guide compares regular UK monthly list prices and selected published features for LedgerlyPro, QuickBooks, Xero and Sage. Prices and offers were checked on 2 November 2026 and can change. Always confirm the current price, VAT treatment, limits and features on the provider's official website before buying.

Temporary discounts are deliberately excluded from the comparison above. They can make the first few months cheaper, but the regular price is more useful when estimating the ongoing cost.

LedgerlyPro: one simple £9.99 plan

LedgerlyPro uses one plan with a 30-day full-access trial and no card required to start. Customers do not need a higher LedgerlyPro subscription tier to unlock the available product features below:

  • invoices and quotes
  • expenses and receipt records
  • Controlled Statement Import for supported CSV and Excel files
  • products, stock movements, moving weighted-average cost, purchase orders, invoice-linked stock sales and stock reports
  • mileage and projects
  • payroll records and PDF payslips
  • Safe to Spend, Mortgage Readiness and Payment Rescue
  • up to 10 Members plus separate read-only Accountant Access
  • MTD for Income Tax quarterly updates and final declarations for supported self-employment workflows
  • supported HMRC income-tax records for CIS deductions, UK savings interest, UK State Pension, voluntary Class 2 National Insurance, Marriage Allowance, foreign pensions and pension reliefs
  • eligible Companies House annual-accounts and no-change CS01 filing, each carrying a separate filing service fee

LedgerlyPro does not currently submit VAT returns, submit payroll RTI, provide automatic bank feeds or support UK property income for MTD for Income Tax. If any of those are essential, choose software that provides them.

Eligible Companies House filings are the exception to the all-in subscription model: each has a separate £19.99 LedgerlyPro service fee, plus the Companies House fee where one is due. This is a transaction charge, not a higher monthly plan.

"HMRC support" can describe very different things, so the table below separates the workflows instead of using one broad badge.

"Not separately stated on the pricing page" does not mean a competitor cannot handle an item. It means the vendor's public pricing page did not give enough detail for a fair claim. Confirm specialist tax scope with the provider before purchasing. LedgerlyPro does not currently claim an HMRC software-recognition listing or permission to use HMRC's MTD-ready trademark.

Companies House filing is deliberately narrower than general bookkeeping. LedgerlyPro does not advertise that it prepares statutory accounts from raw bookkeeping records, and it does not support a CS01 that changes company information.

A low, transparent £19.99 filing service fee

LedgerlyPro charges £19.99 for its filing service rather than requiring a more expensive monthly subscription tier. QuickBooks, Xero and Sage do not publish a directly comparable Companies House filing-service price on the UK pricing pages reviewed for this article, so it would not be fair to claim a precise saving against them.

The statutory Companies House charge is separate. From 1 February 2026, the digital confirmation-statement fee is £50 when it is due for the company's payment period. That means an eligible LedgerlyPro no-change CS01 can cost £69.99 in total when the statutory fee is due: £19.99 to LedgerlyPro plus £50 to Companies House. The £19.99 figure should never be presented as the complete statutory cost.

This wider table explains the LedgerlyPro value clearly: its current inventory, bookkeeping, planning and supported HMRC scope is included in one £9.99 subscription rather than divided among several LedgerlyPro tiers. QuickBooks, Xero and Sage provide mature banking, VAT and payroll options that LedgerlyPro does not currently replace, but customers should check which paid plan and add-ons are required to assemble the features they need.

QuickBooks

QuickBooks publishes plans from Sole Trader Plus through Advanced. Simple Start and above add VAT workflows; payroll is a paid add-on. QuickBooks Plus, listed at £56 per month plus VAT, includes inventory management, purchase orders and project profitability features.

QuickBooks may suit businesses that want automatic bank feeds, VAT submission and a broader plan ladder. Check user limits, payroll costs and which plan contains each feature before comparing its total cost with LedgerlyPro.

Xero

Xero publishes Simple, Ignite, Grow, Comprehensive and Ultimate plans. Its pricing page lists inventory and purchase orders among features available across its current plans, with plan-specific limits elsewhere. Ignite is £18 per month excluding VAT; higher plans add broader payroll, expense, multicurrency, forecasting and analytics allowances.

Xero may suit businesses that need bank feeds, VAT-return submission or an established app ecosystem. Check invoice, bill, payroll and user limits carefully—especially on entry plans.

Sage

Sage publishes a free Sole Trader entry plan, a paid Sole Trader plan and Accounting Start, Standard and Plus. Sage Accounting Plus is listed at £59 per month excluding VAT and includes inventory management, multi-currency and unlimited users. Lower plans focus on simpler sole-trader or accounting requirements.

Sage may suit businesses that want bank reconciliation, VAT workflows, payroll options or a route into broader Sage products. Check whether payroll, inventory and the number of users you need are included in the quoted plan or priced separately.

Inventory price comparison

Inventory is where plan selection matters:

  • LedgerlyPro: included in the £9.99 one-plan subscription.
  • QuickBooks: its pricing page places inventory in Plus, regularly £56 per month plus VAT.
  • Xero: its current pricing page lists inventory in its plan feature tables, with limits and related features varying.
  • Sage: its pricing page places inventory management in Accounting Plus, regularly £59 per month excluding VAT.

Price is only one part of the decision. Xero, QuickBooks and Sage offer workflows LedgerlyPro does not currently provide. LedgerlyPro's advantage is simplicity: its available bookkeeping, inventory, planning and supported MTD for Income Tax tools sit in one £9.99 plan, with clearly disclosed per-filing charges for eligible Companies House submissions.

Questions to ask before choosing

  1. Do you need automatic bank feeds, or are reviewed statement-file imports suitable?
  2. Must the software submit VAT returns or payroll RTI?
  3. Do you need inventory, purchase orders or project profitability?
  4. How many users need access, and is accountant access separate?
  5. Are payroll, payments or other add-ons included in the displayed price?
  6. What will the subscription cost after the introductory offer ends?
  7. Can you export your records in a usable format?

There is no universal winner. Choose the product and plan whose current scope matches your records, filing obligations and review process.
